A sound leader has many qualities that need to go hand in hand in order to create an effective and competant leader. Some of these qualities have been mentioned below.
Inspirational
A leader should have the ability to inspire others to do more than they themselves believe that they are capable of. They should lead by example and show others the values of a true leader.
Effective communication
Communication between the project manager and the members of the team is of paramount importance and it is the role of the leader to gauge the aggregate of the strengths and weaknesses of each individual and make sure that it is taken into account while delegating tasks.
Confidence
The project leader should must showcase confidence to the team members. Confidence enhances the decision making abilities of individuals. Leaders have the task to make decisions that affect the entire team. Often they have to make tough decisions. Confident individuals are able to excel under such pressure situations.
Accountable
Leaders need to stand by their decisions. If for some reason their decisions lead to negative impacts on the projects, they must have the courage to own up to their mistakes rather than holding someone else accountable.
