Self-directed learners tend to be able to transfer their learning from the knowledge they acquire into different contexts and for different applications. Also, the habits of self-directed learners are consistent with that of leaders and facilitators, thus providing them with practice and preparation for leadership roles. You will learn about the benefits of these methods and how they can help to enhance your learning and motivate you to take ownership of your learning process, which will lead you down a path toward ongoing lifelong learning. The successful UoPeople student does the following:
Takes ownership of the learning process by setting personal educational goals, and monitoring their own progress.
Is self-motivated to learn and understand; not only driven by grades or external praise.
Pushes him/herself to think deeper about issues and draw connections to their personal, academic, and professional lives.
Views the instructor as a guide, but themselves as the pursuer of deeper understanding.
Learns collaboratively, through peer engagement and feedback.
Seeks out the available resources and understands the scope of the University, its departments, and its learning philosophy and approach.

1. Describe the essential aspects of a self-directed, intrinsically motivated, active learner? 2. Identify two areas of personal strength and two areas of personal weakness in being a self-motivated and engaged student. 3. Plan at least 5 strategies for personal growth and explain how you will implement each one. 4. How will you evaluate yourself on the success of your personal growth plan and how will you hold yourself accountable? 5. You should provide a word count.

QUESTION 18
Instructions: Please read the passage below, then answer the questions that follow.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
George is a white man in his early 40s that has just been given a group assignment for his Psychology class. To do this assignment he has to form a group with his other classmates. Looking around the room, he notices a number of people that don’t appear to be in a group yet. The first person he talked to completely ignored him, and George figured that person must not be very friendly. The second person he talked to was Donald, a 20-something African-American man. George was hesitant to talk to him at first, thinking most kids his age would be rude to someone over 40 like him. However, much to his surprise Donald was happy to partner up with him. Donald explained that they were all students and they needed to work together in order to get a good grade on the project, which convinced George that he would be a good partner.
Once they got enough people to form a group things really got interesting. George felt that because there were other people’s grades affected by his performance he should do the best he possibly could. But it seemed some people in the group didn’t want to do anything at all. Barbie, a teenaged girl in the class, never seemed to do anything they asked her to. According to Barbie, “I’m not the only one in this group. One of you will pick up the slack.” George was irritated by this, but had a plan. Every time the group would meet he would ask Barbie to do one small thing, like replying to an e-mail. Next he would ask her to do a little bit more work, like writing down notes for the group. Eventually Barbie was working just as hard as everyone else. George hated group projects, but at least everyone was working together.
