The bolt is made of 2014-T6 aluminum alloy and is tightened so it compresses a cylindrical tube made of Am 1004-T61 magnesium alloy. The tube has an outer radius of 10 mm, and both the inner radius of the tube and the radius of the bolt are 5 mm. The washers at the top and bottom of the tube are considered to be rigid and have a negligible thickness. Once snug against the washers, the nut is tightened a full turn. If the bolt has 10 threads per centimeter, determine the stress in the bolt.

A sample of soil was tested; the results were
void ratio e = 1.024
moisture content w = 33.4%
specific gravity of solids Gs = 2.75

Using a phase diagram, determine the following:
a) The soil's bulk, dry and saturated unit weights, and degree of saturation;
b) The volume of air void in 1m^3 of this soil; and
c) The weight of water required to fully saturate the 1m^3 soil

Sanitation (fresh water in, human waste out) is the earliest known form of human leaders/governments taking a hand in issues of waste/pollution. Why do you think it was sanitation, as opposed to other wastes we've examined, that got the government involved? Do you think access to sanitation (clean water and a toilet) should be considered a human right, meaning that governments are obligated to provide it even to people who can't afford it?

n earthwork contract requires to cut and move excavated rocks. The site is a typical limestone rock formation in a cut section, which is 15,000 ft long, 85 ft wide, and 3 ft deep. Seismographic tests indicate a seismic wave velocity of 5,000 fps for the rock layer material. The contractor proposes to rip the rock with a 370-hp crawler tractor. Answer the following questions.

As a Construction Manager for this site development project, prepare detailed cost estimate for the project, and bid documents.

      Assume 10% time value cost of money, bonds, insurance, and storage over total direct cost, contingency at 2% of total direct cost, indirect overhead cost at 5% of total direct cost (additional on top of the equipment and operator costs), and 10% fee (on subtotal total of direct and indirect cost).

ARCHITECTURE

Take one façade of your chosen building and assume (for this exercise) that all solid portions are precast concrete. Diagram the flow of forces showing primary and secondary forces and differentiating tensile forces from compressive ones. propose a new shape for the façade that is more efficient and expressive of the flow of forces.

It is important that you pick a façade that is not completely glass and includes some continuous nonglazed portions from top of wall down to the ground. The building should also have openings for windows and doors.

  • QUESTION 1 a diagram and brief commentary (around 250 words) that describe the flow of forces in your chosen building façade
  • QUESTION 2 a drawing and brief commentary (around 250 words) that describe your proposed new, more efficient and expressive shape for your façade
