Oxytocin is the important hormone which is produced during parturition.Oxytocin plays an important role during parturition.Foetal ejection reflex is induced by fully developed foetus and placenta that induce mild contractions.It causes release of oxytocin from pituitary of mother which causes uterine contractions and helps in the expulsion of the baby.It also helps in the ejection of milk from the nipple for the nourishment of newborn.

The other hormones released are prostaglandin,adrenaline,relaxin, endorphin,CRH.

Prostaglandins also help in the parturition by increasing myometrial contractility.Their levels increase before and after labor.

Adrenaline may also be released in some females who feel threatened during labor which may sometime delay the parturition.

Endorphin levels increase during parturition.Their levels rise during each contraction which help in relieving pain.

Relaxin hormone helps in the softening of cervix further helping in parturition.

Corticotropin releasing hormone also acts as trigger for parturition.
