Expert Solution

81. Answer: False

1. The first stage: Dilation phase. It includes 3 phases

Phase 1: Early or latent labor- Dilation of the cervix. The cervix opens about 3 cm and efface.

Phase 2: Active labor- cervix dilates to about 7 cm.

Phase 3: Transitional or advanced labor- cervix dilates to a final 10 cm.

Thus, the first stage of labor is termed as dilation stage.

2. The second stage of labor: Expulsion phase. It includes 2 phases:

Phase 1: Passive decent phase- The head descends through the vagina.

Phase 2: Active phase-in this phase the mother pushes the baby and actual birth of the baby occurs.

3. The third stage of labor: Delivery of placenta.

May be induced by oxytocin (injected during crowning). This may be called active process.

May be passive called physiological, placental delivery done naturally.

87. True

  • Platelets prevent external or internal injuries to blood vessels, maintaining homeostasis in 3 phases.
  • In first phase vasoconstriction occur causing spasms.
  • Platelet plug formation: It is second stage of homeostasis. When blood vessels get injured, platelets adhere to the exposed collagen and von Willebrand factor (vWF).
  • They function in clot formation in phase 3.
  • Fibronogen is coverted to fibrin or clot by thrombin.
