The four types of parenting styles are described as under:

1. Authoritarian: Such parents are strict, controlling and dominate their child’s decisions. They possess a strong sense of morality and expect obedience from their children.

2. Authoritative: Such parents do exert authority over their children, but are open to dialogue and communication. Such parents seem to establish a balance between their children’s need for independence and their own need for control.

3. Permissive: Such parents are lenient, non-interfering and allow considerable freedom. They are very accommodating with their children’s demand and do not place any restrictions on their children.

4. Uninvolved: Such parents make no demands from their children it show no involvement in their children’s lives either. This can often lead to neglect of the child’s needs.

Research shows that authoritative parenting style is linked with healthy child development.
