What parenting style did your parent(s) use (refer to Baumrind's theory) to raise you? What were the pros and cons, and how do you think it has influenced you today? Consider the type of discipline used and why your parents used it. Which style do you use with your own children, or would you use, if you don't have children. Justify your answer.
My parents used Authoritative Parenting Style which employs high
responsiveness and high demands. Although theis types of parents
are responsive and responsible to the emotions of their children
while also maintaining high standards. They have helped me with my
issues but at the same time set enough expectations while at the
same time supporting me with all my physical, emotional and
educational needs. I think authoritative parenting style helped me
grow responsibly and maintain quality in whatever I do today but it
has limited my ability to act swiftly and I look for approval when
doing things. Discipline was one thing that sometimes seemed to
prevent me from acting because freedom means making some mistake
and fun which I feel was missing. I would use the same parenting
style because although it restricts the children, it is for good.
Children will learn discipline, responsibility and
quality.
