Given an example of each of the parenting styles. How does parenting style affect the type of attachment formed between a child and a primary caregiver?
There are three tyes of Parenting styles. They are
1. Authoritarian 2. Authoritative 3. Permissive
Examples
1. Authoritarian : A child is not allowed to participate in a Drawing competition in which he is interested but is forced by his parents to participate in a quiz competion which they like. The child is not given opportunity to express his opinion.
2. Authoritative : A child always prefer choclates over food. Parents convince him that chocolates are not healthy and explains him the need to cut short the chocolate consumption. The child understands and reduces taking chocolates without being forced to do so. The Parents reward the child for abiding to them.
3. Permissive : A child steals his friend's belongings. Parents come to know this but wont punish him and ignore the matter.
Effect of the Parenting Styles on attachment between child and primary caregiver
1. Authoritarian : These kinds of children will reject their parents. They will show agressive behaviour, anxious attachment and insecured relationship with the caregiver.
2. Authoritative : They are friendly and very co-operative with the parents. They will develop a secure form of attachment with the primary caregiver and show a confident behaviour. They are socially responsible and independent.
3. Permissive : These children indulge in anti social behaviour and they will not have any emotional attachment with the caregivers. They will have ambivalent attachment and are emotionally withdrawn or inconisstent with the caregivers
