I would first talk to the child and listen about what he has to say about his performance in school and try to understand the problem. I would try to understand his point of view, and why the drop in his academics happend. I will acknowledge his feelings about this incident and ask him how he feels about this. The,n i would clearly tell him that he needs to take his studies seriously and not take it too casually, and aslo i will set up some rules at home to improve the studies. I would examine the situation and why it has happend, and i will temporarily cut his playing time and TV watching time which is too time consuming and would let him know the reson for cutting his time. Also, i would offer him some rewards if he improves his perfromance, such as buying him his much wanted skateboard. This parenting style is authoritaive style, in which the parents give freedom, love and attention to the child, but at the same time set clear rules and disipline them if required.
