Briefly describe emotional intelligence and its importance within interpersonal functioning.
Emotional intelligence (EIQ) is the ability of a person such that they would be able to recognise their emotions and as well as able to acknowledge the ability to recognise the emotions of other people. These people would be using emotional information for use of their behavior and for managing their living in the environment. Emotional intelligence of a person allows them to adapt to various environments.
Emotional intelligence pertains to interpersonal relationships, because of the development of ties required for a person to interact with one another. Interpersonal relationship implies to the social interactions that take place between people, that would be involving language, thoughts as well as emotions. Depending upon the agreeableness of a person and their ability to blend in a given environment, there would be increased networking and increased interpersonal relationships.
People having higher scores of emotional intelligence have been shown to be more empathetic in the perspectives where they would be talking and interacting with people. Also, these people are shown to be involved in greater abilities of self monitoring and behaviors in social situations.
