Emotional intelligence (EI) is defined as the ability of an individual to comprehend and manage his emotions. It also comprises of understanding and managing the emotions of other people. People who possess a high degree of EI understand their emotions, understand what those emotions mean, and understand how these emotions can affect others.
EI, like intelligence, is quite important for the success of any organization. When people in the organization understand the emotions of their clients and customers, they are in a better position to serve them and retain them for a longer period of time. Similarly, if management understands the emotions of its employees, it can provide them the benefits they want and retain them with the company for a prolonged period. Also, emotional intelligence allows the employees to have better relations with the colleagues that improves their coordination and productivity.
