Chapter 16: Imagine that your audience is a group of fourth graders. How would you organize an informative speech about "Space Exploration?" How will you make it interesting and not overwhelming?
Chapter 15: What is extemporaneous speaking? What are the advantages of using this speaking style over impromptu and manuscript styles?
Chapter 14: In your opinion, is writing the introduction to a speech or a paper more or less challenging than writing the conclusion? Why?
Chapter 14: What is a main point? What are the four things to remember when developing your main points? How should you support your main points in your speech?
Chapter 13: Why do you think it’s important to pick a topic that is important or interesting to the speaker? List two examples of topics that you care about and think would make good speeches.
CHAPTER 16:
Organise the speech on SPACE EXPLORATION:
1) ENGAGEMENT OF PUBLIC :The very first thing is to engage the students to listen to the topic .
2) THE EXPLANATION:Then explain the entire term what it actually means giving the examples related to real life which becomes fascinating enough and does not bore the kids and at the same time make sure you impart the knowledge that is required.
3) ENTERTAINMENT: Also the main thing is to keep the kids entertained throughout the speech as they are kids and the possibility of losing interest so make sure your speech includes entertainment part also.
HOW TO MAKE IT INTERESTING AND NOT OVERWHELMING?
1) RELATE TO REAL LIFE : When the speech is related to real life and funny parts are added to it, it becomes really interesting to the listener and he wants to listen more so i would surely add a real life example to make it interesting to the kids.
2) GIVE THEM TASKS: Try to engage the public or the kids by giving them tasks to do or giving them questions which will surely involve them and make them interested in the speech.
3) HUMANISE YOURSELF: Try to be real enough and interact with the public rather than just acting as a dummy who is just reciting the speech, iit becomes really boring for the audience to listen if the speaker is very lame.
CHAPTER 15:
EXTEMPORANEUS SPEAKING : It is a kind of speaking in which time is given for the preparation however you are not allowed to check the notes while delivering the speech.
IMPROMPTU SPEAKING: It is a kind of speaking in which an on the spot topic is given to share your views or delivering a speech upon and you are supposed to deliver the speech in front of the audience without preparation or sometimes 2-3 minutes are given for preparation.
MANUSCRIPT SPEAKING :In this kind ,the speaker is allowed to read every single word from a pre-written speech.
ADVANTAGE OF USING EXTEMPORANEOUS :
1) The best part is you are given the time to prepare so you can prepare the speech very well and then deliver it.
It is preferable to the impromptu because there is no preparation time given in impromtu which may result in nervousness and ultimately the mistakes can be done , also the speech will not be effective enough.
It is preferable to manuscript because in manuscript you are supposed to read the entire speech and in this manner you lose interaction with the audience which is most important while delivering a speech.
CHAPTER 14:
In my opinion , writing the introduction part is more challenging because it is something which is going to attract the audience. If you start you speech in an interesting manner , then the public will be keen to know the upcomings in your speech but if the start of your speech is lame or not that eye catching , it is going to spoil the entire speech and moreover it also tells the audience the manner in which you are going to carry forward the speech , so if they found you good enough they ae going to remain keen but if you lose the interest in beginning , you may lose the audience as well.
Though the conclusion is also very important but according to me the intriduction part is of much importance than the conclusion part.
CHAPTER 14:
MAIN POINT : It can be defined as the highlight of your topic which catches the interest of the public.
4 THINGS TO REMEMBER WHILE DEVELOPING MAIN POINT
1) CLARITY: The main point should be clear enough to be understood by everyone and a person does not find difficulty in understanding it.
2) CORRECTNESS: It is very important or you to deliver the correct information, so make sure that the main point is correct.
3) CONTAIN FACTS AND FIGURES: The main point should contain real life facts in order to make it interesting.
4) AVOID AMBIGUITY : The confusion should be avoided for better understanding of the public.
HOW TO SUPPORT MAIN POINTS IN SPEECH?
1) RESEARCHING
2) CREATING ARGUMENTS
3) QUOTATIONS
4) SUMMARIES
CHAPTER 13:
It is really important for the speaker to choose a topic which he finds intersting to himself, because he will be able to deliver the speech nicely and effectively if he is enjoying it.
For eg : If a singer is doing a live concert, he will be able to make the audience enjoy only if he himsel is enjoying.
So same goes with the speaker , he is going to develpo interest in the audience and it is possible only if he himself is interested in the topic he is sharing.
THE TOPICS ARE:
Animals : As i really like animals so i would probably be ble to entertain people if i speak upon this topic.
Sports: I really believe that playing games are really important so it is one of the topics which will be interesting.
