Imagine you are in a long-term committed romantic relationship. How would you feel if your partner made more money than you? How would you feel if you made more money than your partner? Imagine you two decide to have children. Who, if either of you, will stay home with the child? Could you imagine ever having a different arrangement?
People need enough financial resources to run the family and historically whoever earned had the power in the family. This would mean that men always held an upper hand in the family as it was also considered to be the duty of the men to provide and protect the family. However, when women started working and earning, it started creating more equality but the social conditions and workplace inequality in terms of pay made it impossible for women to gain power in the family. Thus, it would be one who earns the more who should work in order to take care of the family and provide irrespective of men or women. This is because of the fact that when two people have a child anyone should stay at home to look after the child while the other work. Although there would be social restrictions that men should work, it need not be in that way. Nevertheless, it’s mothers who would be able to take better care of the children during their infancy while men could take care once the child is used with the normal food.
