how is the scope statement affected by the complexity of the project?
Scope statement is a document that lists down array of tasks that needs to be performed while taking up the project and tasks that are not part of the project. Often length of the scope of work is defined by the complexity of the project. E.g. developing a creative for a newspaper advertisement may require a scope of work which is as short as one page whereas more technical projects like development of off-shore oil refinery will include scope of work that may run into several hundred pages. These kinds of projects would require scope of work that has significant amount of technical specifications focusing right from the development to installation of machines to output from oil refinery etc. Thus, complexity of the project affects size and nature of scope of work. Darnall Preston Complexity index helps organizations and individuals understand the need for detailed scope of work. Higher score on this index means scope of work needs to be more detailed and low score means scope of work can be concise and to the point.
