Why is sex different from gender? Sex is the biological feature that distinguishes one into male or female. Sex in most of the cases remains two whereas gender depends on the sexual orientation of a male or female which is more of a social construct. You can choose to play the role of a male, female, lesbian, gay, bi-sexual or even transsexual.
Most of the countries, even today maintain only two genders and the rest are considered as outcasts. It depends on the social, cultural and religious views of those countries. Individualistic countries, however, has made everything open because it respects individual rights over societal views. The limits for two gender is available in collective cultures and Islamic countries. In developing non-Islamic countries, the people have started accepting and this is one of the most debated topic in those countries. They have even added a third gender in the forms and started acknowledging their place in the society. In my opinion, people have the right to live however they like as long as it is within the law and doesn’t harm anyone.
