Solutions

Expert Solution

Stem cell research is a very modernized technology used for manipulating stem cells from various donors in order to obtain mature cells with required effects. Stem cells are pluripotent cells which can be transformed into any other kind of somatic cells under appropriate growth conditions. Thus, the stem cell research and technology emerges out as a very promising tool for curing diseases which are associated with either lack of function of a cell-type or altogether failure of cell type to generate an effector biomolecule due to either genetic or protein dysfunctions. For example, stem cell research and therapy represents to be a very promising tool for treating myocardial infarction in patients who are terminally ill.

Although the technology is very promising in nature, it is very expensive too. Since the technique requires deep knowledge of the subject along with extensive background research, expertise and man-power, it is indeed expensive in nature. Further, appropriate donors of stem cells are also required to ensure un-restricted supply of the major constituent for carrying out the technology.

The technology can indeed benefit the society in many ways. The most important way to do so is by providing appropriate medical assistance with respect to diseases which are otherwise un-curable by conventional methodologies.
