List and describe the stages of team development.
The five stages of team development are:
Forming - Here the team members get acquainted with each other and get oriented towards the goals and objectives of the formation of the team. The team members do not trust each other and uncertainty is high as the team members are not clear of their roles and responsibilities.
Storming - Here, clarity about the roles and responsibilities emerge. The team members start interacting with each other. In this stage, disagreements and conflicts start as the members get to know each other's style of working. Groupism emerges as a major result of conflicts.
Norming - Here conflicts are resolved and the team members start adjusting their working ways with respect to others leading to unity, harmony, consensus, resolution of differences & disagreements, and establishment of order.
Performing - Here a cohesive team is formed that works towards the common achievement of goals and objectives solving the problems together in a mature and constructive manner. The team members cooperate and coordinate with each other with commitment towards the objectives and complete their assigned tasks in this stage.
Adjourning - Here, various tasks assigned to the team members are completed and objectives are achieved. Thus, the team is disbanded.
