Four stages of Team Development

A team life cycle goes through a series of stages; taking time then becomes a capable team. There are mainly four stages in team development, and they are forming, storming, norming, and performing. Each step has its purpose as well as a standard set of interrelated dynamics for the team members. These for stages are inevitable and the significant parts of a successful evaluation of the team.

Forming- is the first stage in which a team is formed. In this phase, each member of the team is assigned a different task. The team members know and understand each other and learn about accessible opportunities and challenges. This stage is essential as it is the stage where every team member becomes agree at a common goal, and with this decision, they start their work. In this stage, there are uncertainties about the roles and responsibilities, and team members depend on others for guidance.

Storming- this stage is crucial for the team members. The relationship between the team is either made with the cooperation or broken with the conflicts, and this is why this stage is considered as the most challenging stage of team development and for team members too. Here, confidence grows in the team, and they reject any outside authority.

Norming- in this stage, the members start approaching their differences, appreciating colleagues' strength, and respecting the authority of the leaders. The members socialize together, offer their support as well as constructive feedback. In this stage, a strong commitment is developed in the team members toward the achievement of goals.

Performing- in this stage, the team starts hard work with their potential without any fiction and does not require any supervision or guidance for the goal attainment.
