Tontons Macoutes was a special operations unit formed by the Dictator and former President of Haiti Francois Duvalier. He created this unit in order to stall any political threats from his enemies and other parties in politics in Haiti. After an attempt to kill him eventually made him think about his political and other rivals in there. This unit executed many innocent civilians as well as officers who he thought as his enemy and threat to his presidency. That unit was consisted of para military forces, Duvalier authorized the Tontons Macoutes to commit systematic violence and human rights abuse to reduce any opposition lead against him in Haiti. Duvalier’s political rivals were disappeared overnight or in day time people who supported his political rivals also got disappeared in daylight or overnight whether they are poor people or not. This unit executed many rapes and murders in Haiti and hang the bodied to tree to see everyone so that they can learn lesson from it and do not oppose Duvalier.
