1) The Spanish authorities struggled constantly for maintaining the cultural and political integrity of their territory. It resulted to the first Dominican nationalism glimpses that emerged in the eighteenth century as part of a differentiated struggle from the French. Dominicans faced civil and political disorder, export-oriented booms and busts, ethnic tensions, and long duration of military rule. There was never a perfect union or harmony with neighbouring Haiti. The culture, race and nation were perceived to be the Dominican elites. Geographically, it includes the lowest and highest West Indies elevations. Its main mountain elongated and ranges, fertile valleys primarily extend from northwest to southeast. The soils in the valley’s are fertile are fed by two of the main river systems in nation - Yaque del Norte and Camu Yuna system. Although it lies within the tropical zone but has a relatively mild tropical climate.
2) The Parsley Massacre occurred in October 1937 when Rafael Leonidas Trujillo (Dominican dictator) ordered for a mass killing of Haitian population living within the Haiti borderlands. There was a huge execution of the Haitian population living in the Dominican Republican's north-western frontier and in some parts of the contiguous region of Cibao. The army troops of Dominican came from different areas of the nation and carried out the massive killing on the direct orders of the Rafael Trujillo. The violence leads to the killing of nearly 17,000 to 35,000 civilians of Haitian over a span of approximately five days. This incident later become and termed as the Parsley Massacre
