what impact do cognitive changes have on aspects of aging? How can those influence the emotions of those who age? Give some examples.
COGNITIVE CHANGES WITH AGING
the symptoms of cognitive decline that are assosiated with aging include,
1 slower inductive reasoning
-It is a type of reasoning that involves drawing a general conciusion from a set of specific observations .Some people think of inductive reasoning as ''bottom -up'' logic, but it involves widening specific premises out into boarder generalizations .As age advances ability of inductive reasoning diminishes as a result understanding of world decreases in elderly
2 diminished spatial orientation
-It refers to the ability to identify the position or direction of objects or points in space .It can be assessed by asking patients to perform spatial transformations such as rotations or inversion of stimuli.Spatial orientation is defined by two parameters -directional heading and location [landmarks ].As age advances their ability of spatial orientation diminishes so they become confused to walk,to climb,to drive and to accomplish their goals
3 declines in the perceptual speed
Perceptual speed is a cognitive ability defined as speed in comparing figures or symbols, scanning to find figures or symbols or carrying out other very simple tasks involving visual perception .Those who perceive quickly tend to be more intelligent. As age progress ,especially after 60 , perceptual speed decreases
4 decreased numeric ability
as age advances ability to work with numbers [numeracy skills ] may decrease ,especially this is when graphs, long numbers and equations come into play .most of the elderly face problems with remembering long numbers such as phone number
5 losses in verbal memory and few changes in verbal ability
-especially inverbal fluency ,which is the ability to perform a word search and generate words for a certain category [eg , letters animal names]in a certain amout of time shows decline with aging .However ,overall language ability remains intact with aging
INLFUENCE ON EMOTONS
-Some can not control anger -they may feel that they have no controll over the present ,they may react showing ther anger .Mostly because they can not cope with coginitive and physicial changes related to advancement of age
-many feel depression and anxiety-many older persons might react top lose and uncertainty by feeling depressedor anxiousness
grif -grif is normal reaction to the loss of loved one, former lifestyle, health ,vision hearing and mobility
EXAMPLES
Biggest concern is their ability to function as normal and independent
-In most of the elderly driving gets harder as age due to changes in vision and ability to react quickly
-Falling is commom as age advances because of lack of coordination
