protien metabolism
Protein metabolism is the process of breaking down the ingested protein through food for the energy used in the body.
step 1: ingestion of protein food
step 2: protein metabolism occurs in two ways- anabolism and catabolism.
Catabolism is the process of break down the molecules into a small unit and it does not require energy because self-energy are released.
Anabolism is the process of build-up or synthesizes the molecules from smaller components and required energy for the processes. In this process, the amino acids are a synthesis of cell and extra cell protein and synthesis of peptide physiological active substance. This leads to the formation of protein and peptide in the body.
In the catabolism ways, there is present of three ways of degradation of amino acids.
1. Transamination
It is the transfer of NH2 group from the amino acid to ketone acid. The enzymes involve is aminotransferase.
2. Deamination
It is the transfer of NH 2 group form amino acid to free NH 3 group
3. Decarboxylation of amino acid
It is the process of removing of carbon dioxide from amino acid to amines. The enzymes involve are decarboxylase and pyrpdoxalphosphate.
