According to Betty Neuman's theory on nursing, she believes in the approach of holistic care and that the health of the patient depends upon multiple factors such as social, psychological, cultural, mental, physiological and spiritual well being. The tertiary prevention approach has focus on primarily the adjustments and treatments that helps the person to have strength to cope when facing a stressor or any stressing situation. The tertiary prevention approach is in regards to the prevention from recurrence and regression in health of the patient after treatment.
In the form of case study, the tertiary prevention method can be seen in rehabilitation approach of treatment. So for example a patient with the history of alchol and substances abuse when introduced to medical treatment also requires him to cure him not only on his medical symptoms but hoslistc care. For for such patient the alcohol and substances abuse medical treatment can be given but it is critical to also implement the tertiary prevention care in the form of rehabilitation where coping mechanisms to resists towards recurrence and regression can be stopped and prevented. So when we focus on rehabilitation of such patients we give them the mental strength and support systems to resist against the alcoholism and substances abuse tendancies and help them with their rehabilitation. So this is a holistic approach where the focus is on medical and tertiary prevention as a holistic care approach.
