what would be an example of primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention for type 2 diabetes ?
PREVENTION:-it is a procedure through which individuals with
risk factors for a disease, are treated in order to prevent a
disease from occurring.
PRIMARY, SECONDARY AND TERTIARY PREVENTIONS OF TYPE 2 DIABETES
MELLITUS (DM):-
(a) PRIMARY:-
- It aims to prevent a condition which does not yet exist.
-Example- moving from normoglycaemia to abnormal glucose levels and
it include whole population.
- Avoiding soft drinks, high calorie intake, reduce obesity.
(b) SECONDARY:-
- It aims to a condition which have taken but symptoms are not
appeared yet.
- It is based on the first possible identification of the disease
for early evidence-based intervention.
- In diabetes, this identification is based oral glucose tolerance
test (GTT), measurement of fasting glucose or HbA1c.
(c) TERTIARY:-
-It aims those who already have the disease in its early stages
when it is potentially reversible.
-In DM achieved by weight loss(by diet, drugs or bariatric
surgery).
