Out of primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention, which one is the most important and why?
There are three levels of prevention of disease in our health care system :-
- primary level - in which measures are taken to prevent the disease from occurring or onset of illness/injury that occurs before the disease process begin .
Example - lifestyle modification , immunization
- Secondary level - in this measures are taken for early diagnosis and treatment for early detection and to prevent disease progression .
Example - mammography
- Tertiary level- in this measures are taken to manage the progression of disease through medication and rehabilitation.
"Prevention is better than cure"
Primary level of prevention is the most important level of prevention because it involves the measures that prevent the occurance of disease by avoiding exposure to hazards .
In this measures such as :-
Quiting smoking and drinking
Regular exercise
Eating healthy foods

All these prevent the disease from occurring and hence there is promotion of health .
