Cefazolin 2g
Brimonidine 1 drop OPH
Oxycodone immediate release 5mg po Q4HP
Latanoprost 0.005% 1 drop QHS
Dex5 0.9% NS-KCL 20 MEQ IV, IVP
Sodium Chloride 0.9% NS 3mL IVP Q12H
1) cefazolin
Trade name- Ancef, Kefzol
Classes- Cephalosporins 1st generation
Dosage- powder for injection- 500mg, 1g, 2g, 10g, 20g, 100g, 300g.
Frequency- 0.5 to 1g 6 to 8 hrly for moderate to severe infections
UTI- 1g 12hrly
Prophylaxis for surgery- 1-2g 60 min before procedure
Adverse effect- Anaphylaxis, diarrhea, fever, seizures, leukopenia.
Action- It binds to 1 or more penicillin binding protein, thereby arresting bacterial cell wall synthesis and Inhibiting bacterial replication.
Nursing responsibility- Determine any prprevious allergic reactions towards antibiotics, specially penicillin.
Monitor intake output, BUN and creatinine levels, possible kidney damage, report diarrhea immediately as it can be onset of life threatening pseudomembranous colitis.
2) Brimonidine 1drop OPH
Trade name- Alphagan p
Class- Alpha adrenergic agonist.
Indications- Glucoma, occular hypertension.
Dose- 1mg/ml or 1.5mg/ ml
frequency- 3 times a day or as directed
Action- Lowers intraoccular pressure
Side effect- Allergic conjunctivitis, conjunctival folliculosis, conjconjuctival hyperemia, eye pruritis.
Nursing responsibility- Check for allergic reactions, Instruct patient to avoid driving as drug may cause blur vision. Check for other vascular and blood disorders.
3) Oxycodone immediate release 5mg PO
Trade name- Oxaydo, Roxicodone, Roxybond.
Classification- Opiod agonist
Dose- Available as 5mg, 10mg, 15mg, 20mg, 30mg.
Starting dose of 5-15mg taken 4-6 hours as needed
Indications- Moderate to severe pain
MOA- It work to decrease pain message that body sends to brain, by mimiking endorpins.
Side effects- Drowsiness, nausea vomiting, constipation, headache, weakness or lack of energy, dry mouth etc.
Nursing responsibilities Instruct patient not to drive, use heavy machinery, or perform any dangerous tasks.
- Instruct to swallow tablet as whole and drink enough water.
4) Latanoprest 0.005% drops HS
Trade name- Xalatan, Xelpros
Dose- 0.005% 2.5ml
Frequency- once daily
class- Antiglaucoma, prostaglandin agonist.
Indication- Occular hypertension, open angel glaucoma.
Action- works by increasing the outflow of aqueous fluid from eyes through uveoscleral tract.
Adverse effect- Blurry vission, redness of eye, itching, darkening of iris
Nursing responsibility- Instruct to avoid sun exposure as it gradually increases pigmentation.
Check for any other intraocular inflammation prior to administration
Monitor renal functions.
