generic name : Magnesium Hydroxide
drug classification: laxative(osmotic-type)
action: work by drawing water into the intestines, an effect that helps to cause movement of the intestines. This medication is also used to treat symptoms caused by too much stomach acid such as heartburn, upset stomach, or indigestion. It is an antacid that works by lowering the amount of acid in the stomach.
side effect: symptoms of high magnesium levels (e.g., muscle weakness, slow/irregular heartbeat, slow/shallow breathing, mental/mood changes such as confusion), symptoms of dehydration (e.g., decreased urination, dizziness, extreme thirst, very dry mouth), stomach/abdominal pain, bloody stools, rectal bleeding. allergy is less commonly seen.
assessment and monitoring: 1) a complete f medical history of patient especially of: kidney disease, appendicitis or symptoms of appendicitis (e.g., stomach/abdominal pain, nausea/vomiting), magnesium-restricted diet, sudden change in bowel habits that lasts for longer than 2 weeks should be taken before administering or prescribing the medication. 2) as it is It is not known whether this drug passes into breast milk. During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when clearly needed. 3) if an adult is over 60 years management or monitoring precaution should be done regarding Renal-Risk of Hypermagnesemia with renal impairment. 4) as Magnesium hydroxide can decrease the absorption of other drugs such as dasatinib, delavirdine, atazanavir, gabapentin, digoxin, mycophenolate, phosphate supplements (e.g., potassium phosphate), tetracycline antibiotics (e.g., doxycycline, minocycline), certain azole antifungals (ketoconazole, itraconazole), and quinolone antibiotics (e.g., ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin). Therefore, separate the doses of these medications as far as possible from doses of magnesium hydroxide. 5) Symptoms of overdose may include: severe/persistent diarrhea, muscle weakness, mental/mood changes (e.g., confusion), slow/irregular heartbeat, decreased urination, dizziness so its better to monitor physical and mental component in each sift once.
2.Banatrol plus packet (banana Flakes)
generic name: Banana Flakes-T-Galactooligos.
drug classification : Anti-diarrheal
action: Banatrol Plus can be used safely and quickly promote more formed stools without inhibiting gut motility for individuals with loose stools or diarrhea, including those with suspected or have tested positive for Clostridium difficile Infection.
side effect: not yet known.
assasment and monitoring : 1) Avoid in the patient with allergy to bananas, very strict low potassium diets (Banatrol Plus contains 120 mg or 3.1 mEq of potassium per pack), bowel impaction, ileus and in individuals in which fiber is contraindicated.2 ) NOT for parenteral use. 3) Response to Banatrol Plus generally occurs in 5-7 days, depending on the type and severity of diarrhea, the dose and the individual’s response. After 5-7 days, evaluate the person’s response to treatment and adjust the dose of Banatrol Plus up or down 1 pack per day. 4) When stools become more formed on a consistent basis (Bristol Stool score Type 4 or 5), wean off of Banatrol Plus.
3. Potassium chloride
generic name: potassium chloride (poe TASS ee um)
drug classification : Potassium preparations are used for supplementing potassium in order to treat or prevent low potassium levels in the blood (hypokalemia)
action: Potassium is a major mineral (electrolyte) that is important for the function of every cell in the body. For example, it is important in nerve conduction, muscle contraction, and kidney function. Potassium deficiency occurs when potassium loss exceeds intake. Potassium depletion may be caused by excessive vomiting or diarrhea, diabetic ketoacidosis etc.
side effect: Serious side effects of potassium include uneven heartbeat, muscle weakness or limp feeling, severe stomach pain, and numbness or tingling in hands, feet, or mouth.
assesnent and monitoring : 1) To be sure potassium chloride iwill help in patient's condition, his/her blood may need to be tested often. heart rate may also be checked using an electrocardiograph or ECG (sometimes called an EKG) to measure electrical activity of the heart. 2) take a complete history of

drug classification : stimulant laxative
action: It works by increasing the movement of the intestines, helping the stool to come out.
side effect : commonly Stomach/abdominal pain or cramping, nausea, diarrhea, or weakness may occur but serious side effects occur: persistent nausea/vomiting/diarrhea, muscle cramps/weakness, irregular heartbeat, dizziness, fainting, decreased urination, mental/mood changes (such as confusion). A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare.
assasment and monitoring : 1) Before prescribing this medication, take medical history, especially of: appendicitis or symptoms of appendicitis (such as nausea/vomiting, sudden or unexplained stomach/abdominal pain), a sudden change in bowel habits that lasts for longer than 2 weeks, bleeding from the rectum, intestinal blockage and any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. . 2) ask the patient about all the products he has been used (including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products) before starting treatment with this product. tell the client that while using this product, not to start, stop, or change the dosage of any other medicines they are using without your doctor's approval. 3) inform the client that Some products that may interact with this drug include: medications that decrease stomachacid (such as H2 blockers like ranitidine, proton pump inhibitors like omeprazole) so its better to avoid,
kidney disease;
an adrenal gland disorder;
a large tissue injury such as a severe burn;
severe dehydration;
diabetes;
heart disease or high blood pressure;
stomach or intestinal bleeding;
a blockage in your stomach or intestines; or
chronic diarrhea (such as ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease).
3) inform patient that Do not stop taking this medicine without first talking to doctor. as stop taking this medicine suddenly can make condition to become worse. 4) explain the patient that Do not crush, chew, break, or suck on an extended-release tablet or capsule. Swallow the pill whole. Breaking or crushing the pill may cause too much of the drug to be released at one time. Sucking on a tablet can irritate mouth or throat. advice to take potassium chloride with food or just after a meal .
