1. XIFAXAN: Generic Name: Rifaximin. It is a semi-synthetic antibiotic used to treat traveller's diarrhea and hepatic encephalopathy.

ACTION: It is active against E.coli bacteria that cause diarrhea, by preventing growth of bacteria and prevent them from their replication and survival.

SIDE EFFECTS:- Nausea, Vomiting, Dizziness, Urge to defecate, Headache, Constipation, Fatigue, Abdominal Pain, Fever, Fluid retention.

ADVERSE REACTION:- Rashes, Itching, Pseudomembranous colitis, Shock may also occur in case of anaphylactic reaction.

ASSESSMENT AND MONITORING:- Monitor patient for any adverse effect while giving medication.

Vitals may be assessed accurately. Continue the antibiotic therapy for two weeks after that it must be stop to check the progress in patient.

2.HYDROCORTSONE:- Generic Name: Hydrocortisone Sodium Succinate.

ACTION: It is used to treat various conditions such as allergic conditions, arthritis, blood disease, breathing problems, certain cancer, eye disease, intestinal disorders and skin disorders. It decrease body's natural defense mechanism and reduce symptoms such as swelling and allergic type reactions.

SIDE EFFECTS: Stomach upset, Headache, Dizziness, Increased appetite, Trouble sleeping, Weight gain, Pain, Increased thirst, Urination, Shortness of breath, Muscle weakness.

ADVERSE REACTION: Depression, Rash, Itching, Swelling of tongue,throat and face, Severe dizziness, Trouble Breathing, Anaphylactic reaction.

ASSESSMENT AND MONITORING:- As the drug cause dizziness donot drive machinery while taking medication.

  • Report any signs of infection that occur while using this drug and consult the physician.
  • Caution is necessary while giving medication to elderly as it cause osteoporosis.
  • Adjust your diet and anti-diabetic medication.
  • Stop medication while giving breast feeding as this drug passes to breast milk.

3.QUETIAPINE FUMARATE:- Generic Name: Seroquel

ACTION: It is Psychptropic OR Anti-psychotic medication used to treat Schizophrenia, Bipolar disorders, Major depression.

SIDE EFFECTS: Stomach pain, Nausea, Vomiting, Constipation, Light headedness, Drowsiness, Dizziness, Mood or behaviour changes, Dry mouth, Increased appetite, Weight gain.

ADVERSE REACTION: Blurred vision, Jerking Movements, Stiff muscles, Tremors, Trouble in swallowing, Seizure, Cataract.

ASSESSMENT AND MONITORING:- Mediaction cause drowsiness and dizziness so donot drive while taking medication.

  • Avoid alcohol and marijuana while taking medication.
  • It can cause abnormal changes in heart rhythm, proper monitoring of vitals should be done.
  • This medication makes you sweat less and cause heat stroke. So, avoid doing things that cause over-heating such as use of hot bath tubs and do exercise in hot climate.
  • Proper monitoring of elders who take this mediaction as it leads to falling due to drowsiness.
  • Medication should not be taken during breast feeding, as it passes through breast milk and cause side effects in new born babies.

4. ACETAMINOPHEN:- Generic Name: Acetaminophen

ACTION: This drug belongs to class of Analgesics and Antipyretics.It relieves pain and reduces fever by heat regulating center of the brain.

SIDE EFFECTS: Nausea, Vomiting, Headache.

ADVERSE REACTION: Rashes, Kidney damage, Anemia, Thrombocytopenia, Stomach bleeding, Liver damage.

ASSESSMENT AND MONITORING: Donot take one or more product containing acetaminophen at same time.

  • Stop alcohol while on acetaminophen treatment as it cause drug interaction.
  • Consult physician immediately if any adverse reaction occur.

5.ALIGN (PROBIOTIC PRODUCT):- Generic Name: Bifidobacterium infantis or Bifantis.

ACTION: Management of episopdic digestive upsets, eczema, vaginal yeast infections and urinary tract infections.

SIDE EFFECTS: Increase in stomach gas, bloating, High fever, Chills, Prersistent cough,

ADVERSE REACTION: Swelling of face, tongue and throat, Difficulty in breathing, Rash, Itching, Severe Dizziness.

ASSESSMENT AND MONITORING: Liquid products and powders contain sugar, so caution is needed if you are diabetic.

  • Avoid using during pregnancy and breast feeding.

6. FLOMAX (TRAMULSOIN) :- Generic Name: Tamsulosin

ACTION: The drug is mainly used in the treatment of BPH (Benign Prostate Hyperplasia), It is alpha blocker that relaxes the muscles in prostate and bladder neck hence make it easier to urinate.

SIDE EFFECTS: Light headedness, Nausea, Headache, Chest pain, Blurred Vision, Joint pain, Abnormal ejaculation, Tooth problems, fever, chills, decreased libido.

ADVERSE REACTION: Anaphylactic reaction if you are allergic to it, Rash, Itching.

ASSESSMENT AND MONITORING:- Donot take drug with similar medication such as minipress and alfuzosin as it cause drug interaction.

  • Avoid standing for long time while taking drug as it cause falling due to dizziness.
  • Stop medication prior to cataract surgery as it effects on pupils.
  • Donot use this drug for women or children.

7. ASPIRIN: Generic Name: Acetylsalicylic acid.

ACTION: It is used as Anti-Inflammatory agent and used to treat various conditions such as Kawasaki disease, Pericarditis and Rheumatic Fever and in other inflammatory disease. It is also used to treat fever due to inflammation.

SIDE EFFECTS: Ringing in ear, Confusion, Hallucinations, Stomach pain, Nausea, Bloody stool, Swelling, Mild headache, heart burn, lower back pain.

ADVERSE EFFECT: Tremors, Seizures, Nervousness, Rapid breathing, Irregular heart beat, Fainting, Skin rashes.

ASSESSMENT AND MONITORING: Stop using mediaction if patient has blood clotting disorders.

  • Stop using alcohol and tobacco as it interacts with drug and cause stomach bleeding.
  • Should not be used to treat pain during pregnancy.
  • Donot prescribe while breast feeding.

8.LISINOPRIL: Generic Name: Zestril

ACTION: It is used to treat high blood pressure. Also used in combination of other drugs to treat Congestive Heart Failure.

SIDE EFFECTS: Cough, Extreme Tiredness, Nausea, Vomiting, Runny nose, low sex drive, Weakness, Dizziness, Headache.

ADVERSE EFFECTS: Light headedness, Fainting, Hoarseness, Skin rashes, Itching, Trouble in Sleeping, Chest pain.

ASSESSMENT AND MONITORING: Be aware of any sign of infection while taking drug as it cause interaction in white blood cells.

  • Donot use with diabetic agents as drug interaction occur and cause immediate drop in sugar level.
  • Use cautiously in pregnancy and during surgical procedure.
  • Monitor vital signs properly while on this drug.
  • Consult physician immediately if any adverse action occur.
