Q. Question To Ask A Lean Manufacturing Consultant Before Hiring: What Is Your Lean Manufacturing Approach For My Facility (manufacturing organization)?
The primary aim of lean manufacturing is to eliminate/minimize waste. My lean manufacturing approach to your manufacturing organization is primarily to minimize operational cost and lead times to improve productivity and its quality. This would eventually result in maximizing the profits for the manufacturing organization. Lean manufacturing approach includes providing value added services/products from the customer perspective. For example, your customers might prefer a nominal price for your products rather than premium pricing. Hence, the lean manufacturing approach is to identify ways to reduce the operational cost starting from the time the raw materials are procured until the finished products are delivered to the customers (this also includes logistics and Supply Chain Management-SCM).
Thus, lean manufacturing approach is the process of identifying the value from the customer perspective and developing processes and procedures to minimize waste to meet customer expectations.
