In your own words, do you feel that the increased visibility of LGBTQ in the media has assisted in changing society’s attitudes towards sexual orientation? If so, in what way(s)? If not, why not?
Yes, I do feel that because of media and other platforms, the condition of people belonging to LGBTQ community has improved. They have faced many challenges in the past like not being open about their status, not being accepted by the society etc. But now-a-days there has been a paradigm shift in the way people have started looking at them. Because of being more visible, and more vocal they are able to steer in the direction of being accepted by the society. LGBTQ has got a lot of fan following and supporters of their cause on social media. Initially, people who supported them were shy and did not had the courage to openly support them, but now they openly support them and have come out of the closet to discuss their issues.
It is always said that a lot of social reality is construed by media. In this case this aptly fits the bill. The media has been extremely vocal and has been openly discussing about the rights of LGBTQ community. It has given them the platform to ask for their rights and clear the misconceptions that have been surrounding them for ages now.
Therefore, I would like to conclude that yes, media has definitely played a positive role in making the life easier of people belonging to LGBTQ group.
