How do you feel about employers or potential employers using your social media profiles and information from your "private" life to make human resources decisions like hiring and firing? Have you ever relied on social media to make personnel decisions in your own work?
I feel employers making hiring and firing decisions based on the private life of individuals on social media should have some limitations. There should be a clear line of what they can access and use to make hiring and firing decisions. For instance, if the personal life of an individual may affect or damage the reputation of the organization, then they should surely consider that in making decisions related to hiring and firing. Suppose an individual has aggressive views about some political party or community or religion, then the organization should restrict itself from hiring such a candidate as it may damage their reputation.
No, I have never relied on social media to make personal decisions in my work. It is because what people post on social media is not always the true reflection of people, society, or behavior. Social media is a place where people show a fake image, behavior, or identity of themselves mostly.
