Sociology is the study of society, its relationship, social interaction and culture. It is youngest of all the science The word sociology was coined by Auguste Comte french philosopher in 1839. He is father of sociology. Sociology is the science of society or study of society.

Sociology is the study of society. Society means group of people involved each other, sharing the same geographical or social territory, same political authority etc. It also understand the relationship of people in the society. Sociology concentrates its attention to man, his social behavior, social activities and social life. A man who has a family, friend, neighborhood etc. He is involved in many social relationship. Sociology tries to find out the general principle about human interaction and association about nature, form, content and structure of human group and society.

Sociology identify the problems in the society and help to solve the problem. In nursing, socilogy have great role because most of illness have social cause and social consequences. it gives the knowledge to deal with the patient understand their habits, norms and culture. Sociology help the nurse to understand the community, family etc which are the integral part of society. In the recovery of a patient services and support of family members are important. So understand this knowledge of family is essential for a nurse. It help to avoid prejudices and discrimination.. Studying sociology help the nurse to understand the social position, status and social responsibility with regard to health field. It help the nurse to understand the emotional aspect of patient. It give an opportunity to patient ventilate their feeling thereby reduce the emotional burden of the patient. It also help to understand the cultural environment and providing adequate explanation to the patient to adjust to hospital environment.

Man is an integral part of society. A man does not exist alone. It enhances the important of sociology.
