ANS)

There are 2 main kinds of Exocrine Secretory Cells. They are:Parietal Cells and Chief Cells.

PARIETAL CELLS:

  • These are the epithelial cells which release or secrete Hydrochloric acid(HCL) and the Intrinsic factor.
  • Parietal cells are located in gastric glands which are seen in the border of fundus and also in the cardia of stomach.
  • Parietal cells makes the stomach acid called HCL in regards to the gastrin, histamin and the acetylcholine.
  • The Parietal cells have an large secretory network known as canaliculi, from there the HCL is released through active transport to the stomach.
  • The parietal cells are having an pivotal role in the gastric homeostasis and also in the absorption of Cobalamin because of the secretion of the intrinsic factor.
  • The Endocrine,Paracrine and Neural pathways are included in the meticulous regulation of acid discharge by the parietal cells.

CHIEF CELLS:

  • Cheif cells are present in the stomach and which secretes Pepsinogen and Chymosin.
  • The Pepsinogen is activated to a digestive enzyme called Pepsin at the time when that come in connection with acid made by the parietal cells.
  • Pepsin is having a major role in protein digestion at the time of gastric stage of digestion.
  • Chief cells are the cellular source of pepsinogen.
  • Chief cell Location- Mucosal layer of stomach lining.
