Describe the stages of group development. For each, discuss what questions the individual asks at that stage, and what the leader should do to facilitate it. Provide an example to demonstrate the process.

The stages of the group development are -

  • Forming : In this, team members remain positive towards group formation. Some team member may be unclear on what they supposed to do and some may be very excited for the new activities. A project leader mostly be dominating during this stage as at this stage the roles and responsibility are about to be assigned. It takes little longer than expected as the team members will start working together and start interacting with the new team members.
  • Storming : In this stage team members will start pushing against each other and teams gets start failing or conflicts takes place. At this stage team members mat start asking questions on the team goals or is it worth taking the task assigned to them. It start creating stress in the team. At this stage a project leader should start meeting team members for the clarity to get the information on what is causing issues.
  • Norming: In this stage team members start resolving their issues or differences. A project leader will start getting respected as authority by the team members. More socialization and commitment start flowing in among team members. A project leader look for new tasks to be assigned to the team.
  • Performing: At this stage all hard work done by the teams appears into the success and achievement of the project and team goals. More standardized structure and process in place. A project leader start delegating his work to the team members and team will start developing other team members.
  • Adjourning : At this stage project work gets completed and team starts getting disbanded or some type or restructuring for the new project work. Some of the team members start getting worried for the future work or feared and find this stage very difficult. A project leader start building trust and ensure to have continuous communication with the team members to reduce their fears.
