What is Organizational Culture? Explain how organizational culture is expressed and learned. What are the benefits of a strong culture, versus the potential pitfalls of a weak culture? We’ve discussed a number of companies in class so far this semester. Choose one and provide examples of the culture in place.
1)Organizational Culture:
Organizational culture is simply a system of shared values, beliefs and unique personalities, that govern people's behavior in an organization and distinguishes one from another. organizational culture can be said as a behavioral culture.
Organizational culture is a organizations uniques personality and is being expressed in its self-image, inner workings, interactions with the outside world, and future expectations. The way people evolve there and adjust are the ways of learning. When a person gets absorbed in an organization means he has learned it's organizational culture and is familiar with what to do and what not to do.
Strong organizational culture means the values and norms of an organization. The organization's culture is related to its mission, vision, and objectives. Not only the company's growth but their individual growth too depends on organizational culture. A strong organizational climate represents shared perceptions organization members have about their organization and work environment. When everyone shares the same feeling about the importance of something to the organization, the effect of these attitudes as a whole has more powerful effects. Strong culture entails high work ethics which are not there with weak culture. A weak organizational culture is taken as a weak organization inside which anyone can do anything.
If we talk about strong organizational culture then a few examples will be Google, Apple, Twitter, Facebook. All these are top-notch companies with a strong organization culture .they focus more on their employees as they know happy employees are more productive than unhappy employees.
As one knows Google has grown to leaps and bound, having a uniform culture through its offices right from headquarters to satellite offices. Google has an evolving culture, even the best culture needs to be revised hence Google always finds a way to establish a strong culture.
