What are the 3 components of Expectancy Theory. Do you think this describes how people are motivated? How should you get subordinates excited when they are not motivated about work.
Expectancy theory determines how people get motivated because of how the outcome of an action is going to be and how people decide on various factors of motivation. The three main components of thsi theory are expectancy , instrumentality and valence.
Expectancy is where an effort is put in for certain performance results. Individuals put in efforts to get some desired results in performance based on their experience and knowledge.
Instrumentality is where the performance expectations of individual is to get a desired outcome like a reward.
Valence is the importance an individual gives to these rewards and values them .
This best describes how people can be motivated and what are the factors that can help people work the best . When our subordinates are not motivated about work , we can motivate them by explaining them what the outcome of the work would be and how it would benefit them and their job. This would certainly help in motivating them .
