What do you think about Merton's Structural Strain Theory? Do you agree with his theory of deviance? Why, or why not?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Mertons structural strain thoery : this theory states the relationship between societal structure and crimes committed by an individual. when an individual feel the society pressure to achieve some culturally accepted goals ( finance) and when they lack the means to achieve it ,it will lead to a strain . this strain lead them to commit crimes to achieve that goals. this theory also shows that greater the deviance between the socially accepted goals and their current status , greater will be their chances to commit crimes. people adapt this situvation in different ways like conforming , rebel, retreat, innovation and ritual.

i agree with this thoery of deviance. because the society presure has a great influence in the crime done by people. this presure put an individual in a situvation to go by approved means or un approved means to achieve those goals or escape from it or repace it with some less valuable goals.
