Interventions for generalised anxiety disorders-
1.) Psychotherapy- Psychotherapy can be defined as the treatment by psychological means,of problems of an emotional nature,in which therapist deliberately establishes a professional relationship with the patient. This is based on a continuing relationship between patient and doctor in which the patient confides his or her symptoms and the doctor uses his/her understanding of the patient in a therapeutic manner.

a.) Psychoanalytic psychotherapy
b.)Psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapy
2.) Behaviour Therapy- Behaviour therapy is based on the theories of learning, and aims at changing maladaptive behaviour and substituting it with adaptive behaviour.
A behavioural analysis is usually carried out before planning behaviour therapy. One of the simplest methods of behaviour analysis is ABC charting i e.

3.)Congnitive Therapy- Congnitive Therapy may also be viewed as behaviour therapy. Cognitive therapy or cognitive behaviour therapy aims at correcting the maladaptive methods of thinking because it is assumed that most psychiatric disorders are due to negative pattern of thinking.
4.)Family and Marital Therapy- Family based approach.

6.)Electroconvulsive therapy- ECT has been used in psychiatry for the last 70 years. It involves the administration of high voltage, brief direct current impulses to the head while the patient is anesthetized and paralysed by muscle relaxants.
