Stages and Interventions: Describe the stages of childbirth. Describe the medical interventions that may be used during childbirth. How would you explain one of these interventions to a mother in labor?
First stage starts when the pain starts with the dilatation of the cervix.dilatation is occured in 1 to 10 cm.this is divided into 2 phases.active phase and latent phase.in latent phase dilatation occur in 0 to 4 cm.in active phase it is 5 to 10cm.
Second stage:second stage occurs from the full dilatation of the cervix to the expulsion of the baby.
Third stage is the complete expulsion of placenta and membrane.
Medical interventions are.
1.induction of labour with oxytocin
2.rupture of membrane.
3.foetal heart rate checking with dopplar.
4.non stress test.
5.vaginal examination to check progress.
6.local or regionel anaesthesia with xylocaine.
7.episiotomy to ease the child birth.
Before starting induction of labour make the patient understand that medicine will be given to increase the pain and contraction to help for delivery.explain the procedure that an iv line will be inserted and the medicine will be added in the iv bottle or drip.she may start to feel pain afetr sometimes and the dosage will increase according to her condition.intensity of the pain will increase when increase the rate of medicine.if she is capable to cope with the pain then the vaginal delivery is possible.
