The needs of the pediatric patient differ depending on age, as do the stages of development and the expected assessment findings for each stage. In a 500‐750‐word paper, examine the needs of a school‐aged child between the ages of 5 and 12 years old and discuss the following:
Needs are the basic motivation to work . Everyone has different needs and it depends on their age ,gender ,perspectives , work etc. The needs of a school aged child aged between 5 to 12 years are :-
- physical needs which include food ,shelter , clothing, sleep and exercise .
- intellectual needs include literacy , cognitive development by supporting new interests and skills , encourage adoption of new hobbies , provide age appropriate challenges, asking thought provoking questions
- emotional needs bonding , safety and security ,love and belonging
- social needs includes communication , friendship etc
- guidance and discipline
- nutritional needs
According to the Maslow's hierarchy of needs ,the needs of school going child is :-
1. Physiological needs - it includes basic needs such as food ,shelter, air ,clothing etc
2. Safety - it in idea emotional and physical safety , for example clear school /class routine , access to counsellor /nurse
3. Belongings - it includes forming relationship like peer relationship , friendship group
4. Esteem - by providing positive classroom culture for example positive feedback , encouragement to take risks
5. Self -actualisation means student is available to learn
# The physical assessment of school age children include :-
- explain the purpose of examination and it's importance
- conduct a thorough head to toe physical examination ,each and every organ , height ,weight , mid arm circumference ,head circumference etc .
- assess the developmental milestones
- maintain privacy
- teach about body function and care of body
