Well, I'm Lillian, and I'm here because I was in a really significant car accident about nine months ago and a couple weeks. And I guess, well, I used to really be in control of everything. I was really good at being kind of a lynch pin of my family and being able to make sure everybody got to where they needed to be. I was able to support people emotionally and get them to where they needed to be, and I really drove things. And now I mean, I literally now can't drive anything. I can't drive a car because I'm terrified, and so that has major limits for my family. I used to be able to go to all of my daughter's basketball and field hockey games, and now I can't get in the car to go to those. And so someone else's mom has to do that. And so that's been really hard to see someone else basically take over as the mom for her. And with my husband it's been really stressful. He's been great, but I think he misses the old me as much as I do. And it's like it's not just with him. It's like I'm looking -- it's like I'm at a picture window at my house like and I'm looking in at my family. To me it looks like they're doing great, and I'm proud of them. They're doing as well as I could hope given that they don't -- only have half of their mom. But I feel like I'm not really part of the family like I would like to be. And before this I was really active, and I knew how to set a goal and how to achieve it. And now I feel like I can't do the simplest thing. I can't even take care of myself let alone my kids. And I'm getting to the point now where I'm worried that --

>> You know, the kids can't quit their mom but people do leave wives. In fact, he was the one who suggested that I come because I need to get a hold of myself, get a hold of my life and I guess get what control I can have back and get back and be part of my family. Now that you've been able to meet Lillian and learn more about her concerns prepare a response to her using three specific helping skills. These are offering a summary, self-disclosure and interpretation.
Questions:
1. Outline the types of behavioral assessments you might use with Lillian. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?
2. What specific information would you need to gather from Lillian and why?
3. How could you teach Lillian to assess her own fear levels?

The NASW Code of Ethics makes a number of statements about social workers’ responsibility to study, use, and engage in research and evaluation. In the past, many social workers had difficulty thinking of themselves as knowledgeable and capable in research, despite completing the required research course in school. Think of yourself as a part of a new breed of social workers. You are completing your education at a point in time that places great emphasis on both research and evaluation. You also have greater access to published research than ever before. Research knowledge and skills are like muscles—if you do not use them, they will atrophy. You have an ethical obligation as a social worker to exercise and flex your research muscle. Consider how the NASW Code of Ethics guides your professional research.
Post an analysis of how you would present the results of the evaluation to a group of social work colleagues. Identify the background information that you think they would need and the key message of your presentation. Explain the strategies that you might use to meet your colleagues’ interests and goals. Identify questions that your colleagues might have and what their reactions might be.

2.1 The Allegory of the Cave is the reflection of an idea by Plato. He describes the human world as a group of persons living in a sunken cave with only a glimpse of sunlight as they watch normal life reside above them. Not knowing everything thing that is apparent to those outside of the cave it would be impossible for a human of the cave to venture to the above world and instantly be familiar with everything around him and everything he saw. It would take time and getting familiar with those things. And in retrospect could that person return to the cave and say he was as good at living in the cave in which they stayed as those that never went outside.
This allegory was Plato’s explanation to the need for a sense of understanding of a Form of good that can be found in the world of knowledge. To find this good one must one must first identify themselves as willing to search for it. “But whether true or false, my opinion is that in the world of knowledge the Form of the Good appears last of all, and is seen only with an effort.” (Plato, 2018). After finding the form of good a person can envision themselves as a part of a good reality that knows the form of good to acquire a more fulfilling wisdom. And until then they could not become wise.
I returned to cave that I had not been back to for a long time when I was visiting my high school. There was a lot that had changed since I had been there before. Except for the location it was completely different with new buildings and more classrooms. The students also tend to seem a lot younger than they did when I was a student there. The behavior of the students was a lot different also. As time passes the way a school evolves says a lot about how much more students are capable of in later generations compared to prior ones.

John and his colleagues all get along well. John is meticulous, a little too serious and cleans up after every one – a trait he says he learned due to his mom who was a slob. Sam is the funny guy – he wears bow ties that do not match his suit and has kinky red hair that stays out of control and occasionally bakes cookies for everyone in the office. Finally, Amy is the female of the group, makes sure the males stay on task, do not talk about football all day and is slightly overweight, most likely because she dates Sam and eats his cookies too often. They work at a special needs school with students who have varied backgrounds; one student is diagnosed with emotional disturbance and has tried to stab someone. He is 15 and comes from a wealthy family. His placement there is a secret so his family’s reputation is not ruined. While his IQ is in the low average range, he is an amazing artist and is often asked to draw landscapes for the nearby library and museums. There are also a set of siblings who both have mental retardation due to their mom smoking crack while pregnant with each of them (they are two years apart). Neither child learned spoken language but one learned sign language and another uses a book of pictures/icons to communicate.
How might two different theorist explain John or Sam (pick any two)? What would they say about personality? Development?
