Society, for a long time allowed only two genders to be in operation with defined roles of those two genders, male and female. Any other forms of sexuality or gender identity was seriously condemned both by religion and culture that form the pillars of any society. They also branded people who preferred same sex people as mentally ill and kept them away from the society. It took years for women to get gender equality at home, society and at work place after a long struggle. The awareness about the difference in sexuality grew as all the other aspects of the society started improving. The respect for individual freedom, keeping the religion out of the politics, accepting people’s preferences etc. all were great revolutions in the progress of the society. Society started accepting the LGBTQ group and they have started to live a normal life as anyone else in the male and female genders. The other forms of sexuality such as bi-sexual, group sex etc. all got more importance in the last century and became part and parcel of the society but it too differs from culture to culture. These are still considered as sins in countries where religion has an upper hand as it upholds morality. This sea of change was possible after long and hard deliberations and struggle to uphold one’s identity. So, sexuality is definitely a social construct.
