Identify how you would implement communication skills into your current place of employment to improve your own communication process.

I would describe my communication skills as an excellent one. Since I have the habit of reading, I was able to develop good communication skills. Reading also helped me to enhance the usage of vocabulary in my communication. I was the Journal Manager in my former company (multinational publishing company) which requires interaction with fellow colleagues globally. A video conference or a telephone call or a web chat is required with my colleagues who are located globally. This high interaction level has enhanced my communication skills even more. Though I am good at communication skills, I would like to improve it because my voice seems to be monotonous and without expression. I would improve my communication skills by taking the below steps-

  • Using my auditory senses to listen to podcasts, webinars, etc.
  • listening to other who are adept in the language.
  • Practising the communication and language

Listening would help me to improve my communication skills to a large extent and practice makes me perfect. It helps in terms of vocabulary usage, intonation, pitch of the voice, etc. Thus, improving my communication skills would help me both personally and professionally.

Communication is one of the most crucial factors for effective functioning of a workplace as it helps in sharing data, information, ideas and feedbacks. Poor workplace communication and writing skills would result in confusions, misunderstandings, noncooperation, and conflicts. Communication and writing skills challenges generally take place due to language and cultural gaps, improper listening, inattentiveness, difference in opinions, physical barriers, or perception and taboos.

These challenges can be overcome with the help of several techniques. The employees can be provided language trainings for improving their written, verbal, and non-verbal communication skills. Cross cultural trainings need to be provided to eliminate perception and taboos. People should be encouraged to listen and respect to each of their team member’s ideas and opinions. These are some of the ways in which workplace communication and writing skill challenges can be overcame.
