2. Which form of vitamin E is maintained in plasma and used by the body?
3. Multiple Choice
A. Beta-tocopherol
B. Alpha-tocopherol
C. Gamma-tocopherol
D. Delta-tocopherol
4. During commercial refinement of flour, most of the vitamin E that was naturally in the wheat is lost. True or False
5. Long-term vitamin E deficiency may result in _______. Select all that apply.
A.nerve damage
B. impaired immune system function
C. blindness
D. increased retinol synthesis
Answer
According to the given question-
(1) Hydrocarbon chain contains hydrogen and carbon in any organic compound present in the form of solid, liquid or in gaseous form and can be linear, branched or cyclic. Some organic compound are soluble in water such as Vitamin B and Vitamin C and some are soluble in fats such as vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin E, vitamin K.
Vitamins are organic compounds which are not synthesized in human body and and require for the proper growth, immune system and proper functioning of human body. some vitamins are water soluble and some are fat soluble . so both type of vitamins are organic compounds and contains hydrocarbon chain. so it is not necessary that those contains the hydrocarbon chains are must be soluble in fats because some are also soluble in water.
so the statement Vitamins A, D, E, and K are fat-soluble vitamins because their structures include a hydrocarbon chain. is False.
(2) Vitamins E are fat-soluble vitamins and are present in some foods and have antioxidant property. vitamin E is naturally present in 8 form such as alpha- tocopherol, beta- tocopherol, gamma- tocopherol , and delta-tocopherol as well as alpha- tocotrienol, beta- tocotrienol , gamma- tocotrienol, and delta-tocotrienol. out of which Alpha- tocopherol is the only vitamins that are present in the plasma and are used by the body.
So the correct answer for the Question is Alpha- tocopherol form of vitamin E is maintained in plasma and used by the body.
(3) Wheat contains three part called - Bran , germ and endosperm. Bran contains fiber, antioxidants, and vitamin B , germ contains vitamin B, minerals, some types of protein, and fats while endosperm part contains minerals, vitamins, proteins and carbohydrates. refining is done to remove the bran and germ part of wheat to produce refined wheat flour. in this process several nutrients, vitamins and fiber are lost. Vitamin E is present in germ part of the wheat so during refining the germ and bran part is removed so the most of the Vitamins are removed in the refining process.
So the Correct answer for the given question During commercial refinement of flour, most of the vitamin E that was naturally in the wheat is lost is True.
(4) Vitamin E deficiency causes-
So the correct answer for the given question is A, B, and C.
