In todays job market, every employee needs to have a certain set of basic skills and slowly upgrade them with time. In order to be marketable, some of the basic skills that an candidate should have are

1) Problem Solving - an employer wants to see that a candidate just doesnt come for help everytime there is a problem. People are looking for candidates who try to solve problems themselves

2) Communication skills - written communication; in order to be marketable, you must be able to write and express your ideas in documents or other marketing material like powerpoints, presentations etc

3) Oral communication - just like written communication, oral communication is equally important, because many people might not have time to read your report, they want to hear you talk about it.

4) Adaptability - In todays world, an employee who just is stereotyped into doing the same routing kind of task is often undervalued as compared to someone who thinks outside the box and is willing to learn new things and adapt to different challenging environments

5) Technology use - Needless to say, employees with hands on experience with new and latest software packages and tools are considerd highlyimportant.

Other skills which are good to have are

a) Ability to multi task

b) Ability to lead teams

c) Good collaboration skills
