What are creative ways that you can retain your first employee and ensure you are meeting his or her needs?
Consider how you can meet or exceed the employee’s “psychological contract.” Also, how would you evaluate the new employee in terms of his or her ability to be a team player?
Employee retention is quite an important aspect from an organization's perspective and I believe that an organization needs to be effective and serious enough to retain such employees in the organization. The first employee has to have quite a fair amount of knowledge and ideally the organization needs to try to it's limit to protect the employee. Compensation, salary and pay are important but tehre should be other ways by which such employees can be protected, like giving some stock or share to the individual which would make them feel valued and important in the organization and attract them to continue with the organization. The organization also needs to provide him or her certain business responsibilities and independence to make decisions which will give them the value.
I believe that the organization needs to ensure that the employees feel valued and secured in the organization based on which the psychological aspect of the individual needs to be met. If we look at the Maslow's hierarchy of needs, we will observe that the psychological aspect is quite important and individuals need to feel that they are important for the Organization. Quality of work assigned to the individuals will also play a role in their context.
Working in teams are a mandatory requirement that employers have regarding the employees and this can be evaluated through personality tests conducted during interviews to understand if the individual is a team player or not and there are certain indicators that will help them evaluate the same as well.
