Anne-Marie Slaughter in her famous article talks about the difficulty a working mother will face. She talks about the difficult times they would go through when they make that difficult decision of whether stay at home and look after the children or say no to children and pursue one’s career or have them all.
She says that one can have them all, if they are able to plan their schedule meticulously without complaining. She also provides a contrasting opinion about the present day feminism which neglects the role of family for one’s selfishness. She suggests one to balance the work and family life while also working towards one’s passion. I agree with her argument because it’s the mind that makes things or mars things.
She suggests that women are not alone because they need to coexist with men who could help them achieve their dreams and share their pain. It’s also true with men because they also work, they also take care of children and they also help women excel in their fields.
A marathon runner is respected in the corporate world because they want women to work without recognising their sacrifices by treating them differently by paying them less and harassing them. So, she suggests that the employers should help the women for more flexibility in terms of job, timing and promotion.
