Expert Solution

  • Women live longer than men, they are sicker than men in that they report higher rates of morbidity. One common element of the explanation for women's higher rates of morbidity is that there are gender differences in the way that symptoms are perceived, evaluated and acted upon. It is widely assumed that women will be more ready to report illness and to seek help and that they have greater flexibility in their lives to accommodate illness. Women report higher rates of morbidity and are more ready to report mental health problems like depression, anxiety etc. than men.
  • Men with smoking related conditions or any cardivascular diseases are more likely o be hospitalized and eventually suffer death more than women, suffering from same conditions.
  • Women maybe more likely than men to suffer from health conditons, like, arthritis or headaches that result in poorer self rate health but contribute relatively less to the risk of mortality, whereas men suffer more from cardiovasculr diseases which leads to not only worse self rated health but also more chances of death.
  • Women actually know more about their health than men,and might be more healthier men ,leading high morbidity.Female hormones and the role of women in reproduction have been linked to greater longevity. Estrogen, for example, facilitates the elimination of bad cholesterol and thus may offer some protection against heart disease; testosterone, on the other hand, has been linked to violence and risk taking.
