Design a space within a building (could be one room) indicating the interior thermal
mass and construction. The design should illustrate the best location for thermal mass
and window placement in order to improve indoor comfort and building's thermal
performance.

Expert Solution

Answer,

A typical living room designed with keeping thermal mass in mind is drawn below:

An outer explanation of thermal mass criteria in a building and explanation of prerequisites in below image:

Designing a house or room considering thermal mass have following prerequisites.

1) Solar orientation and angle :- House should face North or south so that it allows winter sun and excludes summer sun.

2) Cross ventilation :- We need breeze in summer to cool the night through house.

So by providing windows on opposite sides (E - W) direction will allow air to pass through in those hot summer night.

3) Insulation :- It reflects the heat flow , so that rooms remain at cool from outside.

4) Material (Glass) :- Placemnt of glass should be - most at North side but minimum at East - West side.

. You have two thermal couples. One thermal couple is fixed in space at (Xo,Yo,Zo) and the second thermal couple is moving in space. At time to, the second thermal couple moves to location (Xo,Yo,Zo). Assuming the temperature is not uniform in space. Are the temperatures measured from the two thermal couples the same ? Are the rate of changes of temperature the same? Please be clear I really want to understand the concept, Thank you for your help (:

A space station is about to disintegrate. There is room for one person in an escape pod which will preserve that person’s life until a rescue vehicle can arrive. There are three persons left on the station: a 20 year old student (that is you), a 50 year old scientist and a young child. Who should be given the space in the escape pod, or should the three draw lots and decide randomly?

A marketing organization for apartment building owners advertises that one-bedroom apartments within one-half mile of the campus rent on average for $725 per month. A reporter for the student newspaper is writing an article on the cost of off-campus housing. Her sample of 16 one-bedroom apartments in the one-half mile radius results in a sample average of $750 with a sample standard deviation of $55. Does this data lead the reporter to conclude at a 10% significance level that average...

An experiment is performed in deep space with two uniform spheres, one with mass 22.0 kg and the other with mass 110.0 kg . They have equal radii, r = 0.10 mm . The spheres are released from rest with their centers a distance 37.0 mm apart. They accelerate toward each other because of their mutual gravitational attraction. You can ignore all gravitational forces other than that between the two spheres. A) When their centers are a distance 27.0 mm...
