. How could one design an ethical experiment that would study the influence between Nature vs Nurture in child rearing? Basically an experiment to help with finding out if Nature or Nurture impacts our personality.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Nature is the due to genetic factors of the individual which the person has inherited from his/her parents. Nuture is growing up or the environment in which the child has grown. Such influences include the culture, parental upbringing, the childs social relationships around.

Any experiments to compare the influence of nature vs nuture, it is best to consider homozygotic twins or identical twins. The genetic composition of the twins is same. So the nature of the two individuals is similar. So if the nrture or environment has any effect on the growing up of the child can be studied by keeping the two twins in different enviroments for few years in the growing up age for example during infancy. One twin can be grown in an atmosphere where it is highlly spiritualistic and with moral values. Another child may be grown under normal conditions. So in few years, the difference in the personality of the two twins will be suggestive of the effect of the two on personality. Such an experiment will not cause any ethical issues. Twins of parents with aggressive behaviour can be best to test the personality which may be difficult to find one.
